Materials typically reach a job site by truck or plane. For this Fish & Wildlife Service/K-Con project in Alaska, materials arrived a little differently. Look closely at the photos of the barge and you’ll see each has been carefully loaded with everything from construction equipment, trucks, trailers, and crates, to palettes of wood among other things. These photos were taken leaving Seattle for the trip to Bethel, Alaska. Once they reach Bethel, materials will be offloaded onto a smaller barge for transport up the river to McGrath, Alaska. McGrath is a remote town with only the river and an airstrip for access. The materials are needed for a FWS hanger project to shelter small aircraft.
